PHOENIX, ARIZONA, USA – The burgeoning Druk Shito-Kai association marked a significant milestone in its history with its first official charter member training session, held on August 12th and 13th, 2024. The two-day intensive clinic was led by the Shihan T. Rabino (WSKF – 7th Dan and U.S Representative of WSKF), representing the first-ever in-person training for the group under his direct guidance.
Held in Phoenix, Arizona, the seminar provided an immersive deep dive into the heart of Shito Ryu karate. For eight hours over the two days, attendees engaged in a rigorous curriculum designed to challenge and refine their skills. The training was not only a physical test but also a comprehensive educational experience, blending foundational techniques with advanced concepts.
The session covered a wide spectrum of the martial art, including the detailed study of Shurite and Nahate kata, their practical applications in Bunkai, and the dynamic practice of Kumite. Participants were also introduced to the rich traditions of Kobudo (traditional Okinawan weapons) and other classical systems such as Nanban Satto Ryu and Kenpo.
For Senpai Raj Magar, a charter member of Druk Shito-Kai, the experience was profoundly impactful. “Feeling incredibly grateful for the amazing opportunity to train with Shihan Rabino,” Magar shared. “The long days were challenging but left me feeling refreshed and motivated to continue my journey.”
He emphasized the depth of the training, noting, “I know I still have a long way to go and I’m proud to be an official member of Shito Kai USA with Menjo.” This sentiment highlights the dual outcome of the event: a recognition of progress made and a clear-eyed view of the path ahead, now officially certified with the receipt of a Menjo (martial arts license).
The successful conclusion of this inaugural training has set a powerful precedent for Druk Shito-Kai. The participants left Arizona not only with enhanced technical knowledge but also with a renewed sense of inspiration and a solidified commitment to their martial arts journey, firmly establishing the group’s presence within the global Shito Kai USA family.
