Demonstrating exceptional dedication, he attained the rank of Shodan (1st Dan) in 1996 and has since advanced to Sandan (3rd Dan), reflecting his enduring commitment to the art.

Leadership in Karate Instruction

As the Chief Instructor of Fargo Karate Club (Fargo Shitokai Dojo), Sensei Raj upholds the core tenets of traditional karate—technical excellence, character development, and respect for martial arts heritage. Since 2018, he has mentored students of all ages, cultivating discipline and a profound appreciation for Shito-Ryu Karatedo. Under his leadership, his students have excelled in national and international competitions, earning multiple gold medals.

In early 2024, he commenced advanced training under Shihan Ted Rabino, further refining his expertise in Shitoryu Karatedo techniques and principles.

Contributions to Karate Organizations

Beyond his instructional role, Sensei Raj has been instrumental in the development and governance of Bhutanese karate institutions in the diaspora. He joined Druk American Shitoryu Karatedo (later renamed Druk International Shitoryu Karatedo Association (DISKA) in 2016 at the direction of Sensei Ran Rai. During his tenure with DISKA, he served as Secretary and Technical Committee Member for three years, contributing to curriculum development and strategic initiatives.

Following disagreements regarding the organization’s management structure, he, along with several senior members, resigned and established Druk Shito-Kai. Presently, he holds key leadership roles within the organization, including:

  • Governing Body Member
  • Technical Committee Member
  • Examination Committee Member

His leadership ensures the maintenance of high standards in training, grading, and organizational advancement.

Academic and Professional Background

Outside the dojo, he is deeply engaged in community service, working full-time in the nonprofit sector. Additionally, he co-owns a small business, demonstrating his entrepreneurial acumen and collaborative spirit.
